Explore the Local Waters

Just a short walk from The Condominiums at the Kelley School at the intersection of Route 1 and Merrimac Street in downtown Newburyport, Plum Island Kayak offers a variety of sea and river-bound adventures for the whole family. From viewing seals off Plum Island, to venturing north to the Isles of Shoals, to setting out after dark to take in the full moon from an oceanic vantage point, Plum Island Kayak provides the perfect way to explore the local seaside communities. Want to try something new? PIK offers stand-up paddle boards too, along with instruction!

Plum Island Kayak’s experienced guides use drop-off and take-out points all along the Lower Merrimack River, from as far inland as Rocks Village in Haverhill down to Plum Island Point. The tide and the wind always factor into the route and direction of any given tour, as nature doesn’t run on our schedule. But you’ll be in good hands for each and every tour, and guides will make certain guests get the most out of their paddle.

Tours explore a variety of unique habitats, including salt and freshwater marshes, estuaries, and other adjoining waterways along the Merrimack, Indian, and Powwow Rivers, Town Creek, Joppa Flats, the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge, and Plum Island Sound.

To get the most out of kayak season, purchase one of PIK’s season passes! Passes are great for those who want to get to know their home from a whole new vantage point, and would love to share their adventures with friends and family.
